UPC Issue | USA
34Issue A client faced a UPC (Universal Product Code) issue where their product listing was flagged for invalid or missing UPCs, preventing it from being published on Amazon.
Solutions
The project began when I identified a critical listing error caused by non-compliant UPCs. Specifically, the existing barcodes did not match the GS1 database, which triggered a mismatch with Amazon’s internal validation system. Consequently, the product remained suppressed, preventing the client from launching their inventory. To fix this, I performed a comprehensive audit of the current identifiers to confirm where the data fell short of Amazon’s stringent requirements.
As a next step, I guided the client through the process of obtaining authentic, GS1-certified barcodes. This move was essential because Amazon now prioritizes brand integrity by verifying the "Company Prefix" against the GS1 GEPIR database. Furthermore, I updated the listing data with these accurate codes and synchronized the brand name to ensure a perfect match. This careful attention to detail eliminated the technical friction that had previously stalled the publishing process.
Ultimately, these strategic updates resulted in a successful listing reinstatement. The product is now fully published, which has enabled the client to proceed with their sales strategy without further technical delays. Moreover, by switching to verified GS1 codes, we have protected the brand from future "Inaccurate Product ID" flags. This proactive approach not only solved the immediate crisis but also fortified the account's long-term health and search visibility.
